There are a lot of blond people here, but just as many dark haired, and a small portion of redheads. I guess we just have more blondes than other parts of the world, so that's why you hear that stereotype. Also, American tv shows love Swedish blondes saying "yaaaaaa?", in GERMAN costumes, for some odd reason Wink

I'm just jealous - Denmark never gets mentioned anywhere.

We have a lot of American traditions here too though. We watch the classic Disney christmas show on prime time Christmas eve, listen to all the music and watch all the horrible made for christmas-movies.

Actually, when I was in grad school, there were 2 Danish students everyone referred to as "the Danish boys". We don't know if they were telling the truth, but they said in Denmark, there were buses during the holiday season so people wouldn't drive & they'd hand out song lyrics and get people singing.

Most US specials are awful, except for "It's a Wonderful Life" and Christmas Vacation and the Rankin Bass Christmas specials for kids (though the Little Drummer Boy gave me nightmares) & Charlie Brown. The Grinch is ok & so is Olive the Other Reindeer

We do sing a lot at Christmas. We HAVE TO dance around the Christmas tree and sing songs before we can open our presents. But handing out lyrics to strangers? Hmmm, never done that.

Well we have an okay public transportation system in Denmark, and every year they advertise, a lot, that they are the safe option when you're drunk from a Christmas lunch (which is dinner, but whatever, and there's a ton every December, at school, work, night classes, with friends etc... I had 4 this year, lowest in years) and need to get home. Tis the season to be jolly - and drunk. And they change the bus schedules so people can get home late at night. So I guess you could call it holiday buses... Hehe.

I absolutely LOVE Home Alone 1 and 2. I had such a big crush on Macaulay Culkin when they came out, and in general it's just two good movies. Too bad they made about 500 movies with the same excact plot after.

A very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you !!!

Speaking of Christmas Dinner, some Germans have the traditional Potaoesalat with Sausage

AND on New Years Eve the Germans LOVE to watch this little movie. It is a MUST, otherwise we wouldnt know the new year is finally coming. It's called 'Dinner for one' and most of the English dont know this exsists.

Have a great time.

Hey guys, god this Christmas will be the weirdest as i am unfortunately working. My job is opened 365 days a year i am afraid. Working in the care setting someone has to do it Smile This year i will be at work during the Christmas Meal so i will get something at work(well fingers crossed) I get to come home at 1030pm on Christmas Night. I was originally doing a Sleep Over but my guy is going to his sister's house Christmas Eve to early Boxing Day (26th)

Normally we start on 23rd December bring all the food out and check we have everything, then on Christmas Eve we get all the fresh Vegetables and Fruit. We also attend Christmas Eve Mass at our local Church(I LOVE CAROLS) Then like MonkeyFeather'smom we have a Chinese meal. This is followed with at the stroke of mid-night we get to open 1 present. Then its off to bed. Get up at 6am and open the rest of the presents. We are all up by 9am. 10am my Brother and his Girlfriend comes over and we open more presents. Then we all eat a bacon roll. Then this is when we prepare Christmas Dinner. Eat until we are full and play family games all evening. Its great.

My friend who si 23 years old has not had a Stocking since she was 7 years old. That is so sad so this year i bought her one and she was VERY happy with it. That's so wrong EVERYONE has to have a stocken. My folks have their own stocking and my sister and i fill them up with little things. I thought it was sad when she told me. So she has one now heehee!!!!
BEEN THERE DONE THAT, GOT THE T-SHIRT

Countess, new years eve we watch "Dinner for one" here in Denmark too, it's a HUGE tradition. It's always on tv like 20 minutes before the change of the year at 12. Even at the fanciest of the fancy big parties, people stop the music and turn on the tv to watch Dinner for one.

That was great, thanks for sharing that. I had never heard of it before.

Ah yes, where dyscalculia meets holiday celebrations. I just put 2x the amount of rum I was supposed to in my first 2 batches of banana daquiri bread (banana bread with rum & lime). I tased the sample one & while strong, still seems ok texture wise.

Greetings Greetings!

In fact I haven't been here for a long time...or I even think I never posted here.

Well I thought I'd say hi and send out some greetings!

(Is there an introduction area? I'm sorry I couldn't find it!)

@ Countess: Yeah many people are eating that here indeed. But I think it doesn't really fit to such a glittery and noble feast like christmas.
We're eating Fondue on christmas (and goose with dumplings and sauerkraut on the 25th) while eating sausage and potatoe salad on new year's eve.
(Yes I am aware many people do it vice versa but Fondue fits more to christmas to me and sausage with potatoe salad is such a "party food"Wink

Happy Holidays! Thanks for posting the Heat Miser song...I loooooooove that. It's so much fun to dance to. I love the cute mini heat misers. But in the sequel, the mini heat misers aren't as adorable. If you want to get a good laugh, check out this link. The live action version of the special is horrible! All of the charm of the show is in the claymated figures. You just can't transfer that cartoony-ness over to humans.

I'm not Greenlandic, but I love anything and everything Greenlandic. I have a bit of a Nordic cultures obsession. So if anyone has been to, lives in, or wants to go to Greenland, feel free to share your story with me. Anywaaaay, here are some YouTube links about Greenlandic Christmas. I actually have never watched them, so you'll have to give me the verdict (I'm supposed to be getting ready to go somewhere and my mom will have a bird if she hears me on the internet).

They might be in Greenlandic or Danish, but I won't know until I watch them I guess.

Oh and here's a clip from the movie Elf, it's just plain hilarious. I love Elf, it's a great way to brighten your day!!
