elena532,
I was also born 3 mos. early. I don't think I've ever met anyone born that early..it was 1980 though, and the technology has improved since then. I did not have delayed speech or language skills, in fact they came quite early, although I believe it took me a bit longer to learn to walk than most. I had never thought about the link between premature birth and dyscalculia. I do know that being in an incubator, there was the possibility of too much oxygen at birth, which is why many preemies apparently become deaf/blind etc. This did not happen to be, but I do wonder if coming into the world early had any effect...

Thanks for your post.

I wasn't born premature, but a friend of mine was born several months early and has severe dyslexia among other disabilities.

I don't know if I was born early or not, cause my mum's cycle was irregular and the docs had to date the pregnancy using ultrasound. I was one of the first babies to be ultrasounded, so I don't think ultrasound dating methods were reliable then. I was born early compared to the date given, but I was a normal healthy weight so I was probably born at the right time and the docs got the dates wrong.

Dyslexia and dyscalculia appear to run in my family, so I think it's genetic. however maybe being born too early makes this kind of thing worse? or being born early causes other problems that combine with the dyslexia/dyscalculia making them worse?
