I just thought it would be funny to start a thread for those little and irritating things that happen in the day of a dysclaclic. That although at the time drive you crazy.. are in hindsight actually kinda amusing as no one else but a dysclaclic could really understand.
Liiike..
I hate it when..
I wake up with my alarm in the morning and casually step into the bathroom with a head start on the day to wash my face and brush my teeth... a few moments later when i walk out ...45 min have gone by and now i'm late.

That happened to me this morning! I was in the shower thinking I had plenty of time because I had gotten up early... turns out my 15 minute shower must have turned into 30 minutes because when I got out of the bathroom I realized just how behind I was! I ended up being about 5 minutes late to class but the professor was rambling about bowties for the first 10 minutes anyway so I didn't miss much.

haha, totally right! i love laughing at myself sometimes.
i hate it when...
someone says im not trying then i get mad and they try to turn it into a joke
when im with little kids and someone asks "whats 3+3?" and it takes me about 10 times longer to answer than 5 year olds.
when someone wakes me up in the middle of a really good dream.
when people point out my inability to do anything right in front of a bunch of people
when i get lost
when i am playing with my dog and then someone walks by and i am suddenly no one again.
theres many many more, but i will save you from my terably long rants.
this was a great idea earlywarning!

Oh gods, I definitely hate time loss. It happens to me a lot in the morning. I wake up, I'm making good time, and then suddenly I look at the clock and I'm late.

..I do the same stupid clumsy things that I've done hundreds of times before and I know everybody is thinking that I'm too old to behave like that..

I definitely used to hate the look customers would give me when I had to ask my coworkers to read out long strings of numbers, like on manually typed-in coupons. Especially if, when I handed them their receipt, they stood there and looked it over momentarily before leaving as if to make sure I didn't screw up their total because I can't count.

The time loss for me is ridiculous. I'll be in a panic because I'm late, then I get there and realize I'm actually way too early. |

My morning rituals are the same btw, get up in the morning, shower, panic because it's getting late and then attempt getting dressed, making breakfast and remembering keys, lunch, cell phone, scarf at the same time.
Forgetting at least one thing seems to be part of the ritual.

Mohinga - Your post made me laugh because forgetting something and panicking over time are both infused into my morning ritual too. Get up, eat breakfast, get online "for just five minutes to check e-mail", realize I've been on Facebook for half an hour, shower, realize I spent too long in the shower, try to find clean clothes, realize that I'm wearing house slippers and not real shoes as I start up my car, run back inside for real shoes...

You too? I once walked out of the house in winter with a long winter coat on to go to work. 50 yards down the road I realised that whilst I had put on thick winter tights to wear under my trousers the actual trousers were still on the ironing board... |

And - Haha! I'm terrible about wearing my "house clothes" out in public without realizing it. There is a reason I keep extra flip-flops in the trunk of my car... too many times I have driven half-way to school, then looked down at my feet and realized I was wearing fuzzy purple slippers. Whoops!

I Hate it when your talking to someone you've known for months or years.. and they get offended because you draw a complete blank on their name.. <0.o>
Or even worse... someone you've got a crush on... and have talked to a few times.. but can't seem to keep their name in your head. The harder you try the more asinine and absurd the name you keep coming up with is...
[conversation goes like]
"hi'"
"omm.. man.. i need to remember her name..i know it started with an S.. and had a Siiinnii kinda sound at the beginning of it.... i think it was Cindy.. yeah gotta be Cindy"
"so Cindy".. "what are you..
" My names Amanda"
<0.o>.....<-.->... <o.0>.. "oh yeah.. isn't that what i said?"
"no.. goodbye"
" ummm... K"

Dear EarlyWarning,
Yes, I frequently can remember the first sound or letter of a name, and then fill in the rest from my imagination. Once, (LOL) I'd met my new neighbor from across the street,... also, her husband and children. I'd used her name repeatedly. The next time that I needed her name, I couldn't remember it. I said, "I'm sorry that I can't remember your name. I think that it must have been difficult to pronounce?" She said, "Teresa." This was so-o-o embarrassing to me at the time. Finding out, much later, about LD's was a big relief.
Other times names like "Sherry", "Cindy", "Kathy" & "Christy", "Amanda" & "Amada", can 'run together' or 'overlap' in my mind, just as I'm trying to 'call to' someone. - jus'

EarlyWarning and Jus - I do a LOT of name blanking too. It's gotten to the point where I flat out tell people when I meet them, "Please don't be offended if I forget your name in ten minutes, I am just really bad with names!" They always understand and after a few weeks... or months... or years... I will eventually remember their name. I never forget a face, but the name usually takes a while to conjure up.

I do the name thing pretty badly as well, I still don't know all the names of my tiny university class and I have been in there for 4 months- I mix people up as well, it was really embarrassing about a month back, I had worked with these two men for a while and they had similar profiles, dark hair, tall etc and I had had a conversation with one of them and the next day attempted to resume the conversation with the other - he thought I was nuts when I kept insisting we had talked about a particular thing, then it dawned on me...
I do the time thing as well, time seems to speed up or slow down and it never is what it seems. I may have a gap of ten minutes and think about things or do something that will take 2 minutes and think the ten minutes is up.
The other thing I can do is look at my watch and instantly forget the time - I will read the numbers but then can't process it as the time. Like I instantly forget and have to look again - I have to look several times and will have to keep reading it until it applies to
the actual time- it is hard to explain but it is something I find annoying.
I also need two clocks watches! digital to read the time (its easier) and analogue to work it out- because I cant read the time from an analogue clock easily but then I cant work out future/ past times from a digital - i need the aid of an analogue clock for that
- to work out what time it will be in 20 minutes I count in fives until I get to the number I need :/

LOL don't ask 'em to spell it either; I tried to salvage a forgotten name by saying "How'd you spell your name again?" and he looked at me strangely and replied "B-O-B"

Oh yes, I do the name thing too..
I frequently mix up people in books if their names are too similar...no wonder I sometimes don't get the plot at all.
Town names like Grevinge and Gevninge are bound to get a whirl in the Mohinga Name Blender. I will never learn to tell them apart..
Even on this forum I've been known to click on "symptoms" instead of "forums"

A whirl in the Mohinga Name Blender? ;-) Do you sell those? Mine are transparency overlays. And, mine also come in 'book' form,... you know the ones where the page is cut in three parts, and you can have a top part that makes a funny picture with a mismatched middle and the wrong pants and shoes on the bottom third? - jus' |
