What beautiful dogs! They look so happy out there in the yard playing. By the way, I love the name Violet. Smile Always something I've been fond of, for some reason. Thanks for sharing! I should post my pictures of Layla playing in the giant tree limb that fell in our yard... she looks like she's a jungle dog, she thought it would be fun to climb through all the branches of this huge piece of tree that dropped down into our yard (nearly taking out the fence with it).

Thanks everybodySmileThis pair of Rotties are my second and third dear girls from the same reputable breeder, and have the same sire. Sometime I'd also love to share a pic of my dear veteran, 12 yr. Moose<Black Lab> through rescue. He isn't outside with the girls much- he can go out with the 3 yr old and he can with the baby but for possibly obvious reasons all of them together isn't the best idea for him. My very first Rottie girl was the one who started it all, now at the Bridge - Esmonds Extra Special, and she was indeed VERY special to us and is always in our hearts. The young adult you see in the photos is Esmonds Violet Vanstone and the baby Rottie is Esmonds Love Will Find a Way <due to the story behind her>
We LOVE to watch the girls play together!

'kat, yeah, please sometime if you can, share your dear Layla playing too! I can imagine all the fun she has in that tree!
But good thing the fall didn't cause any damage or injury!

Rottie - As per request, here are three of the pictures of Layla enjoying her "jungle gym." Smile

As you can see, she wanted to get right into the thick of it!

This one shows just how big the limb was. The wooden fence behind it is a 6 foot privacy fence, and it was probably 2-3 feet higher than the fence. It fell within 3-4 feet of the fence itself, it very nearly took out the fence.

She is closer to the camera than the tree limb is, but even still you can see the sheer size of this thing. It was like a small tree itself!

Hi 'kat, thanks so much for the PICTURESSmile That IS large tree. I love seeing her tail there among the foilage and how much she was enjoying herself smelling around! Did u have to coax her out? My guys do that too at the base of the trees and brush in the yard, I think often small animals like rabbits and chipmunks like to make little tracks along brush paths and edges of things, or use them for shelter or shade or to sit and gnaw on something, and this is very intriguing for the dogs to smell.
You do realize that all the "feet" mean nothing to me...Wink

Kat, your dog Layla is BEAUTIFUL! What kind of dog is she? She looks a lot like my dog who is a Chow Chow German shepherd mix. They both have a fluffy tail and ears.

Dandy - Thank you! You are right on the mark too, she is a German shepherd/Chow mix as far as I can tell. Smile I would love to see a pic of your dog, just to see how their features match up. A lot of Layla's features are Shepherd-like... her head and face shape, ears, body length (longer through the middle than a Chow), coat texture (hard top coat), etc.

But she also has a lot of Chow features too, most noticeably the double coat. It's hard to tell from these pictures because she blew out her winter coat around April/May and has had a thinner undercoat for the summer, but she has a very distinct double coat that is incredibly thick. You have to take a comb and part all the way down to the base of the hairs just to even see her skin. Her legs are also a bit short for her frame, more Chow-like, and obviously the curly tail. I think my favorite Chow feature is her feet, though - can't see them well in the pictures, but she has very small, compact cat-like feet with extremely furry toes!!

Her personality is a pleasant blend of German shepherd and Chow, I think. Very friendly, but sometimes aloof if the person just doesn't "feel right" to her. You can tell that sometimes she just dislikes certain people for absolutely no identifiable reason. Extremely independent and free-spirited, does NOT like being told what to do and will talk to you all day about it (very vocal).

She's unbelievably intelligent but because of her independent streak it takes a firm hand and a really strong working relationship to get her to obey commands. But she has such a drive to learn, she absorbs new commands and tricks like a sponge... her level of intelligence scares even me sometimes, I've never met a dog like her before. She's incredibly loyal and, as is typical of Chows, a very "one person" dog. She is without a doubt my dog - she will not listen to anyone else when given a command by them, and she has physically attacked people who she perceived as a threat to me. I definitely feel safe with her wherever I go!

Rottie - She had a blast, and I did finally have to call her in when I got tired of standing out with her in the heat. I don't like to leave her in the yard by herself because I'm always afraid she might jump the fence (we don't have privacy fencing the entire way around, and she is very determined... if she saw something she wanted, I don't doubt she would clear the 4 foot chain link fence.)

Haha, okay, let me try that again... the tree was about as tall as the height of a ceiling in an average house (about 9 feet). It fell close enough to our back fence that I could stand between the tree and fence and reach my arms out, and couldn't even stretch my arms all the way without touching both of them.
