I'm in college at a very small campus!!! I always park my bright yellow car in the same lot, right in front of the building my class is in, so I can just walk right out and find it easily (also why I had it painted yellow! )
After class yesterday I had an appointment with my Academic Advisor to register for next semester's classes. So I left my class in the first building in the usual way, out the front, so I wouldn't get lost. I walked to my right to the second building, where I thought the Advisor's Office was. When I couldn't find her office, I asked at another office. But then I couldn't remember her name to ask where her office might be! They thought I might be looking for the "new" woman, as my previous Advisor had relocated and moved away. So they sent me to a third building. "Just go out of the door and take your next two lefts," the Secretary told me. So I did what I thought she told me to do, but as it turns out, I somehow ended up on the farthest side from the third building!
But wait, it gets better!!!
Once I got in the proper building, I had to find the Library, as all the Advisors offices are through a maze of hallways in there! So I walk around and finally find someone who knows where the Library is (it's the only thing at the top of the stairs), and found my way to the Library with no problem. Good! Now I just had to find the proper office. After roaming around a few minutes, I dead-ended in a Study Room. I asked students there if they could point me to the Advisor's Offices. They kindly pointed me to the correct hallway and I found the office I was looking for.
After sitting with my Advisor for about 10 minutes, I had only to find my way out of the building and back to my car. So I just followed my first incorrect steps, thinking it would lead me back to the Study Room and I could find my way out from there. I never did see the Study Room again, but I did find the stairs, and the Exit! Awesome!
I immediately knew something was wrong when I opened the door and was emptied out onto a loading dock.
So now I'm on the farthest side of the campus from both the original building I started in, and my car! Good thing it's yellow, eh? But did I find it? No, I was looking in the wrong lot! I had to go around the front of the building I'd just exited, around to the front of the second building I was in, and cross the campus to the lot I'd actually parked in!
Damn I was angry! It took me longer to find her office and my car than it took for the appointment! I'm so accustomed to getting lost that I haven't been embarassed about it in decades! But I still get very frustrated.
Sorry for the long rant. I usually try to make my point and go, but this is the worst it's been in a while, so I just had to vent.

Story of my life. I am habitually either 30 minutes early or 30 minutes late, depending on whether or not I am late and how late I am. And my school is HUGE. I am having to look into arranging paratransit because there is a serious danger that if I get on a bus I will never see my campus again. It's frustrating, too, because nobody ever seems to get how something so simple as getting around campus can be so immensely difficult. I can't even go into one of our libraries by myself because I literally cannot find any way out again if I do. (And we have over 20 different libraries... ugh.)
