I subscribe to the Wrightslaw newsletter via internet (Special Ed Advocate). It's free, and very informative, though almost entirely written regarding advocacy for children, not adults. This new newsletter was introduced on my email by saying that it was not for the 'humor-challenged', and that those who fit that description should stop reading immediately. You'll see 'why' as you read the article. - jus'

thanks for posting that, it's an interesting site and those IEP tales are humorous :-)
while I have some of the IEP reports, I honestly don't remember if I was at any of the MTeam meetings as a kid <though I know now the child - if appropriate - is supposed to be at the meetings>. But reading those stories, makes me wonder how the experience was for my mom. I know she went by herself as opposed to with my dad, as at that time their relationship was especially not good and he was working the night shift mostly <much of his work has been 3rd shift>. She got involved with the public schools system because of me and became an advocate for public education, ex ed, unions, pay equity, sexual education and civil rights. She became part of the PTA at a national level and was on the school board here. We went to a lot of school board conventions together and I remember her taking me to meetings with the school district superintendent; I'd sit and draw while everyone had their meeting. One of my earliest memories is going to a teacher's protest/picket line with her in the 70's - she wasn't in the line, she was meeting some other PTA/school personnel there.
anyway, good site to look at, 'jus |

Thanks for the feedback, RW. I'm glad that the article jogged your memory and perhaps gave you more insight. I never knew that any of this existed, so I'm learning about all of it for the first time, really in just the past two and a half years. - jus' |
