I just thought I'd tell you guys a story from the other night that would make you smile.

I was at a graduation party and several of us were sitting around eating. We were just talking about people we used to know, what they were doing with their lives now, etc. Anyway, I don't even know how anymore but eventually the topic of conversation came to college, and learning disabilities. One of the guys there said, "What are people with learning disabilities doing in college, anyway?"

I kid you not, at the same time THREE of us all jumped at his throat and said, "Hey, I have a learning disability and I'm in college so shut the @*$&# up!" There was no way for us to have planned it, it just happened like that, then we looked around at each other and laughed and were like, "Yeah, that's right!"

I just thought it was a really nice moment of solidarity among a couple of LD people who weren't afraid to stand up and say we have learning disabilities and to support each other in saying that we're not stupid and we definitely belong in higher education!

That was really wonderful! I've never actually met anyone else with dyscalculia, and I think the hardest part is dealing with ignorant people (the world is full of 'em). I'm so glad that you all stuck together like that, it just goes to show that us LDs are growing stronger!
