i really want to become a dental hygienist but i'm worried about how dyscalculia will affect that.
i'm in my junior year of high school where i'm required to figure out my career path. i talked to a dental tech who told me math is required for dental school.
i don't know what i'm going to do, but i dont want to let my disability get in the way of what i want to do with my life.
does anyone have any expiriences similar? or advice on how i can get to dental school with dyscalculia.
thank you! |

Hi SushiPanda,
Have you been diagnosed yet? With the diagnosis of Mathematics Disorder, you may get accommodations making it a little easier to pass the math. - jus' |

Yes, if you get diagnosed you may qualify for extra help or other accommodations. |

Did you ask how much Math is involved? Or how difficult it is?
It might be that it's basic stuff that you might be able to do. As the others mentioned, you might be able to get accommodations or you might also think of using some Basic Math books (The Only Math Book You'll Ever Need, Conquering Math Phobia, etc). I am trying to teach myself poker, which is certainly not like having to do Math on the job, but I've dug out my Math books and think it might help.
Just a thought. |

It would help if you selected schools that you might be interested in and request to see their class requirements. It would also be helpful to discover what is required to get a dental hygienist license to work in your state. I believe states have differing requirements.
Also, Jus is right. You need to be diagnosed with dyscalculia to receive accommodations.
Do tech schools require ACT/SAT scores for entrance? I'm clueless/ |
