I'm an adult and I need an official diagnosis. Where can I go in Utah? Is it expensive?

I went to the local literacy counsel and asked to be tested, and they helped me. Perhaps you could do something similar.

Hi CarolRB and cherokeerose. Welcome to the forum. Sometimes the State agency for Vocational Rehabilitation will pay for the testing, but this usually depends on being poor, and of having a spotty job history. If you are a University student, check with the Disability Services Office to see if they have a list of psychologists who might give a reduced rate. Also, some universities are doing research on the subject, and you might get testing through that program. And last but not least, the grad students need people to test, so see if you might get it done this way, for free.

Cherokeerose, are you in Utah, as is CarolRB? - jus'

CarolRB, if these ideas that Jus' came up with doesn't work out, you will have to find a psychologist, which can be expensive. The most important thing is to not give up. It took me several months of looking to find someone that did my testing.

Thank you, and I really appreciate the encouragement! It is such a relief and comfort to find people that understand!

Squeaky, didn't you mean 'find a psychologist', rather than 'find a psychiatrist'? When I find a 'psychiatrist', I usually run in the opposite direction. ;) - jus'

ok, am sorry - their "Adult" section is still a work in progress apparently but you can still check out the site in general.

ok here's a link to University of Utah: http://disability...links.html
even if you're not a student or interested in attending they may still be able to direct you on for what you need.

there's also this:https://www.c4hp.com/learning-disability-assessment

and the University of Utah has info. about their testing here:http://clinic.ed.utah.edu/services.html

Thanks RW! I bookmarked it and will check into it. I feel a bit weird about being tested there because I was attending the UofU when I told my counselor about my problem and she told me to get a professional diagnosis. It was a couple of years ago, and she discontinued my major so I might not have to deal with her again. That would be nice! I can't go back to school for a while (if ever) because of health issues, but it would be nice to make it official so I can get some help.

no prob.Smile
well, I do hope you don't have to deal with that one person again - maybe you can contact LDA-Utah <initial link I gave you> at first and see if you get anywhere; possibly see if that conference is anywhere close to you so that you could attend some part of it and see if you could reach anyone in person there.
