Not sure if this article was already posted or not, but it looks at dyslexia vs. dyscalculia.

I think that the article got it 'pretty much right'. It's not the way that I would have said it, but a few of the points it makes, I agree with. For example, just because a person is dyslexic doesn't mean that they aren't a 'word person'. They are sometimes great writers and story tellers, but they have to get 'help' for getting their work into written form. It was nice to read that the author doesn't think that being good at math is necessarily a proof of high intelligence. It's not that I want to diminish the accomplishment of being good at math, it's just that the level of ones math has, for too long, been given too much importance in judging the person's intelligence of lack thereof.

When I'd talked on the phone to a receptionist (I think that was her position) about the Basic Skills test for teacher certification in Michigan, and had explained to her my MLD, she became offended (almost outraged) and said, "WE only allow competent persons to be teachers in Michigan!" Grrrr. Just saying,... it was if I'd told her, "Hey, I'm really dumb, so maybe I can be a teacher in Michigan"? lol - jus'

Hey Jus, I would have said to that receptionist, "ooooh, is that why you're not a teacher?"
But I think you're a little nicer than I am Smile

dandy, I'm in the same boat you are! I'll find out in the spring semester if I'm "competent" enough to teach in Michigan Pfft I have to take the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification to get into the Education dept. here. From what I'm reading, they almost never grant accommodations for learning disabilities, but we'll see.
