Alternative Teacher Certification.
I went to a meeting yesterday for people who have a Bachelor's degree and would like to become teachers. The statistics show (at least in Texas) that nowadays 60 percent of teachers are getting the 'alternative teacher certification' rather than the traditional route.
Here's the big news. According to the lady who gave the speech at that meeting, the State of Texas has a 'special' math test that they will administer to anyone with the dyscalculia diagnosis. I haven't had time to verify what she told me. I asked her what is 'on' the math test. She said that the information about the test isn't published, and that it is administered on an individual basis. If this test exists, and if it isn't published, then many dyscalculics may have foregone getting a degree specifically because it looked like the obstacles were insurmountable. I will make every effort to investigate further. - jus'

Thanks, RW. I'm a bit handicapped (pardon the pun) because I asked to have my internet disconnected last week. I'm going to keep my landline, but I want to get internet through a mobile device. So, during this transition, you may have noticed that I've been on the forum less than usual. Also, I haven't had the time to do the research that I used to do. My friend with a math degree, who took me to that meeting I mentioned, has already been called to an interview at the alternative teacher certification place. Since I haven't finished my degree yet, I can't get started there. I'll be posting my findings. - jus'
