Hello All!
Im very dyscalculic and dyslexic... I have learnt how to survive on a daily basis with it and I do find myself apologizing for my conditions regularly... Cant deal with silly menial tasks such as handling money telling the accurate time on a clock face and so on and so forth!! Guess it has limited me to some extent. eg job opps. however i survive by using my other skills such as creativity, empathy and have managed to carve out a living as sports holistic and complementary therapist... selling a painting now and again to make ends meet!! so that me!!!! hope to meet fellow calcs for support!

welcome here, Hannah!
I have difficulty with analog clocks and money, too among other things. I tend to be very intuitive and think in pictures.
Am involved in holistic health care for all family members <2 dogs, 2 adult humans> and enjoy Tai Chi.
I also count on my fingers and don't hide it ...make no apologies.
I went to a creative arts high school. What do you like to paint? |

Welcome HannahF,
Part of surviving as a dyscalculic is having good coping strategies, whether we identify them as such or not.
You'll find a good community here that is always willing to listen and offer support and feedback on similar experiences. I know i have benefited from being a part of this this community.
I share in your problems with money.. classic me is folding my money and counting twice the amount i hold.. or spending half of it on something somewhere and completely forget. 0.O.
You May not Live, But you will Die. |

Hi HannahF,
It's so nice to have you here. I'm glad to see another member from the UK, as our usual friends from there haven't been checking in with us as frequently as before. If you don't mind my asking, did you get tested and diagnosed with dyscalculia and dyslexia? And, was that early in life, or later, as an adult? We've had some recent visitors to the forum wanting to be tested in the UK, so I'm curious about where and at what age you were tested. Again, welcome. - jus' |
