Has anyone taken voice lessons? This has long been a goal of mine, so I bit the bullet and signed up.
However, I don't read music (well, just a little) and am afraid this might get in my way. I'm going to ask my voice teacher about music theory...but I have a feeling it will be very difficult for me to learn.
Of course difficulr doesn't mean impossible.

No,... not singing lessons. However, I bought a great audio CD for practice improving that tricky mid-range transition area. I used to sort of jump from the lower range up to a falsetto (yikes!). But following the instructions on that CD, I got so that I could 'hold onto it' and blend the lower range with the higher range (i.e., voila! mid range!) until I make it through, without breaking out into a falsetto. It turns out that we 'learn' to sign badly by listening to other bad singers around us when we are kids. Then, we have to 'unlearn' those bad voice habits to be able to sing well. It was a big revelation to me. Set Your Voice Free. 2003. About eleven dollars at Walmart now. - jus
