oh....I'm sorry about this - so Voc. Rehab. wasn't helpful...guess you are in the States, then <since I asked when I replied to the first post I saw from you>.
I understand how frustrating and sad that can be.
Hmmm........what about cross-disability organizations like Independent Living Centers; college programs like Disabled Student Services <for resources/directions on where to go, regardless of you being in college or not>; Special Ed. departments at local colleges or universities; places like Lions Club/Kiwanis etc; your state's <or nearby state's> LD chapter of national LD org such as National Center for Learning Disabilities or Learning Disabilities Association of America....

Such a good question, Marion. My first experience with my State's Vocational Rehab was good. I'd happened to get a young counselor who was actually there wanting to 'help' people. But by the time I tried to go back and get help a second time, I happened onto (not one, not two, but) three different people who were condescending and unhelpful to me. Actually, it was worse than that. One actually spoke to me so accusatively (is that a word?) that I was afraid to finish the interview. I hope there will be other sources for you. - jus'

This is the second time I have tried to recive sevices in the State of Wyoming for my dyscalculia. The State of Wyoming Voc Rehab counselor the state appointed to me in 2006denied me services Dubois WY because I am a native american. I called CAP under the direction of my native corporation voc rehab coundelor in Alaska. The man had abused many native americans before I and I was the straw that broke the camels back..he was fired as a result from a letter I wrote explaining the abuse that occured. The only difference between this experience and my first one from what I can gather is that the people who are doing the abusing this time have not abused ENOUGH PEOPLE to be fired. I decided I dont need the stress of Voc Rehab in my life anymore. I feel great about my decision. I am proud to native and proud to be LD..I am different and I am ok with that. Smile

I really do understand what you mean about not needing the stress of Voc Rehab in your life anymore. It always 'sounds good' when we say that we are doing something, not just for ourselves, but also for other people out there who will follow. But the truth is that 'those who will follow' won't always appreciate our sacrifice. And in other cases, the people who were last abusive to you may be gone 'on their own' before the next people who need help even arrive there.

I'd been wronged at a long-held job of mine over a rule that said a particular notice should be posted in a visible spot at the workplace. At our office, that 'notice' was hidden in a hallway that was only used when people were herded en route to training, with no time to stop and read the fine print. Our 'representative' was distressed that, while I hadn't had access to that posted rule, it got applied against me. The 'representative', my co-worker, really fought for me, appealing all the way up to the gov official in charge of enforcement about my situation. And then that official told my co-worker that he couldn't care less where the rules had been posted. Poor old Don Quijote. We've all been there. We make an attempt at getting justice, but we choose our battles. And even the battles we choose, we know when to cut our losses and give up.

What I don't know, because I haven't heard of a case like this yet, is,... If you get your IQ test done in a different State, will that cause you any trouble getting it accepted at a college in your own State? - jus'
