Alright, so a bunch of you are interested in making/buying badges, t-shirts, bumber stickers etc., to spread the word. And it's a great idea that we have talked about many times before.
We will definetly make a section with printable stuff so you can go to a local print shop and get the stuff made. If you want to share your designs and slogans with us, here's the thread where you can post them, so that we can keep them all in one place.
Some of you think it would be okay if we made a shop through cafepress.com if we sell the products completely nonprofit. I'm still convinced that this will make a group of people think that this forum is some sort of business - which would mean that we completely loose credibility. Because... Even though we would make perfectly clear that the shop would be nonprofit, who's to say that we are telling the truth? Is there a part of cafepress where people can see the original price for the product? I've searched and searched, but I can't seem to find it unless I'm logged in as a "shop owner".
So far we have
gooup:
Dyscalculia - it's real. Count on it.
Dyscalculia... It just doesn't add up.
Dyscalculics... We don't count?
Dyscalculics ... you BET we count!
Dyscalculics ... we count, too
littlelostkitten:
Dyscalculics - Don't we count?
conec:
Dyscalculia - I count
Bonnie:
DYSCALCULIA - You do the math...please!
And a couple of old ones;
Dyscalculics count too
Dyscalculics count 2

Well, i own a graphic design company, so i'll get some buttons made in bulk for the cheap price and let you guys know ... that is, of course, after we decide on a "dyscalculia" logo.
BTW, i like Conec's:
Dyscalculia - I count.

Hey if more of you make logo's and slogans that's cool - the more the merrier, because then people have something to choose from. |

I'm interested! I'm trying to come up with a few ideas....

Is there a way that we can contact cafepress and explain to them that we want to sell our items non-profit and would like to make it clear that we are completely non-profit, as in listing the original price or whatnot...
Another idea would be to try to find an organization that would be willing to help support us with products and spreading the word... I'm just kicking around a few ideas right now...
What do you think?
Oh...and for slogans how about this:
"Twelfth Night, no problem. Twelve times Nine....welcome to the world of Dyscalculia."
Not sure if I like that one... just trying to think outside the box.

OK, i am printing a shirt for me ... i do artwork for a screenprinter here in my home town. If any of you want one, speak up! Now, should i sell them at cost, or should we make a small profit and donate to ... oh, i don't know! To this forum? To a dyscalculia society (is there such a thing?) Anyway, i am getting the dyscalculia logo i designed (see my sig, below) on the front, and the address to this site small on the top of the back of the shirt, small right under the collar.
Speak up, people!

What about creating downloadable stuff as well? For people who live in different countries. Maybe, wallpapers, avatars, website banners, etc. Help spread awareness!

gooup: Right now all the money this forum needs is the annual fee to have the site up and running, and that's not really a big deal. I wouldn't know what to do with money donated to the forum. If it was like, a forum devoted to one country, donations could be spent on psysical items to spread the word (flyers etc.), but that's not the case.
So you don't need to charge more money for the forum's sake anyway.
It would be SO cool of you if you made the final logo available in PDF or something, so that other people could make t-shirts and stuff at home.
Rac: Excactly. It should be possible to download designs and stuff. We just need someone (preferably more of you) to make something cool. I'm not any good with stuff like that...
But there are actually a few things already - avatars, banners, flyers and a brochure - check out the SPREAD THE WORD-link in the navigation.

I vote for something with the word 'math dyslexia' too, because that will make people stop and say whaaaaat...
Something like "math dyslexia - it's real! Dyscalculia something something"
But other than that I like "Dyscalculia - it's real. Count on it." and "dyscalculics count too" (2 if you wanna be cheesy) |

Bonnie - I love that one for Dyscalculia! It has my vote and I'd definitely wear a shirt like that.

What about simply the word "Dyscalculia" in diferent languages?
ex.:
Dyscalculia (English)
Dyscalculie (French)
Discalculia (Italian)
Dyskalkulie (German)
just a thought

How 'bout that? Pretty long, but that's it.
"Got lost in your hometown? Salespeople have you on their 'easily fooled' records? Failed math again? Welcome to the club! dyscalculiaforum.com"
Or for a T-shirt slogan:
"4-6%...and counting. dyscalculiaforum.com"
"COUNTinually challenged"
"Dyscalculia is not contagious... your ignorance is." (okay, I stole this one... but I seriously think we should work together with the autvocates as our issues are similar.)
Whaddaya think?

I think cruachan's "4-6%...and counting" suggestion is brilliant
I also like the "Dyscalculia is not contagious... your ignorance is" must be my sarcastic side

Ok. I think that what we need to do here, is to figure out what message we're trying to get across. There are some fantastic slogans, but I'm wondering if we need something that just simply explains what dyscalculia IS. I liked the 'Maths Dyslexia - it's real' because it's how I explain it to other people. Everyone's heard of dyslexia, so I think, start from there. |
